Betting on the Oklahoma State Cowboys (+11.5)
Record: 12-12 Overall/5-7 Conference
The Cowboys are having an up-and-down campaign in Big 12 play, but they have won twice in their last three games. In its most recent outing, Oklahoma State demolished the West Virginia Mountaineers at home last Tuesday, 81-58. Anytime a school scores a big win like that, especially against a rival, it definitely boosts the team’s morale, and the Cowboys needed that shot in the arm, as they head to a rematch against Kansas. The Cowboys lost at home to Kansas back on Jan 4, 74-63, but still made the Jayhawks work hard for that victory, The Cowboys held Kansas in that game to only 43.1 percent shooting from the field and forced the Jayhawks to commit seven more turnovers than them, 17-10. It’s really Oklahoma State’s defense that will dictate how good it plays in the rematch.
Oklahoma State, which is 14th in the nation in adjusted defensive efficiency, is 2-1 against the spread in its last three games overall.
Betting on the Kansas Jayhawks (-11.5)
Record: 20-4 Overall/9-2 Conference
Kansas got heavily tested last Tuesday by the visiting Oklahoma Sooners, but the Jayhawks managed to survive and score a 71-69 victory to completely recover from a 79-76 road loss a game prior to the Texas Longhorns on the road. With that win, Kansas remains on top of everybody else in the Big 12 standings, albeit on a very slim lead. Jalen Wilson paced Kansas in the Oklahoma game with 22 points, while junior forward Christian Braun had 18 points. Braun also had a good game in the first meeting with the Cowboys, scoring 15 points to go with six assists and six rebounds, while big man David McCormack had a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds in just 23 minutes off the bench. Kansas just has so many weapons who could step up on any given game, which makes it hard for opponents to decide which player to focus on defensively.
Kansas is 13th in the nation with 79.6 points per game and 9-1 straight up in its last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Kansas wins, 75-64.
