Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (4-1)

Point Spread: +3.5

The Eagles are flying into the night with a three-game winning streak serving as the wind beneath their wings. They tore Arizona apart in Week 5 with a 34-7 victory, scoring TDs on their first three possessions and covering a six-point spread in the end with ease.

Philadelphia outgained Arizona 419-307, outrushed them 122-31, and won time of possession by a 36/24 margin. QB Carson Wentz threw four TDs and showed perseverance under pressure by hitting 11-for-12 on third downs. The Eagles defense is matching their newfound offense prowess, and in holding Arizona to just one touchdown, they are showing that they are indeed contenders for the post-season.

Week 6 props look favorably on the Eagles, with player prop odds suggesting that Wentz will pass for over 250 yards, and that Zach Ertz will record 6 or more receptions, even if it is unlikely that LeGarrette Blount will record a touchdown this week.

Betting on the Carolina Panthers (4-1)

Point Spread: -3.5

Carolina claimed their third road win of this season in Week 5 against the Detroit Lions, outgaining their opponent 362-242 and winning time of possession by a 35/25 split. Newton has returned to form, throwing 26 of 33 for 355 yards and three TDs in addition to a rushing touchdown, making it the 50th of his career and claiming the league record in the process. Tight-end Ed Dickson (replacing the injured Greg Olsen) nabbed five balls and carried for a truly impressive 175 yards. Week 6 props expect Newton to throw for over 250 yards and record two or more touchdowns this Thursday against the Eagles.

Writer’s Prediction

Bettors may be drawing conclusions from the Eagles three-game winning streak. However, it is important to note that this string of victories came against three teams who are a combined 3-12 this 2017 NFL season. On the flip side, the Carolina Panthers have handed defeat to two serious contenders while on the road. With Cam Newton in form, the smart money here goes on the Panthers.
