Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (odds)

Regular Season Record: 1-0

Is Trey Lance ready for the NFL? Maybe yes, maybe not. What’s clear is that he gave Niners fans a reason to be excited about him after he went 5 of 14 for 128 yards and a huge touchdown, albeit in San Francisco’s 19-16 home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Jimmy Garoppolo shouldn’t feel so safe about his status as QB1 of the Niners, especially if Lance puts solid performances the rest of the way in the preseason. In any case, it appears that San Francisco has a solid run game to fall back on. The Niners rushed for 175 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries against Kansas City. That’s a backfield that could rip LA’s defense on Saturday. The offensive line sure did a good job making alleyways for the rushers, but it will have to improve in pass protection after allowing five sacks last week.

The 49ers are 3-2 against the spread in their last five games in the preseason.

Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (odds)

Regular Season Record: 1-0

The Chargers came away with a 13-6 victory in Week 1 of the preseason over the Los Angeles Rams. The Chargers’ defense barely allowed the Rams’ offense to breathe. The Rams produced just a total of 197 yards. The Chargers gave up a passing touchdown, but also had one interception.  Nick Niemann, Chris Rumph II, and Emeke Egbule showed out on defense and will look to contain San Francisco’s attack this week. Although they scored just 13 points, the Chargers did not have any turnovers and were able to rush for 112 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries. If Justin Herbert would see any action in Week 2, that would be a huge plus for the Chargers as he could further open up the defense of the Rams.

The Chargers are 3-1 against the spread in their last four preseason games.
