Betting on the Seattle Mariners (22-17)
Nathan Karns didn’t pick up a win in his last outing, but he still pitched well in a 7-6 loss to the Halos on May 13. It was the first time in six starts that the Mariners lost with the right-hander on the mound.Against LA, Karns went 6.1 innings on the mound, allowing three earned runs on six hits and struck out five Angels. Karns has been a solid option at the back end of the Mariners’ rotation this season, as evidenced by his 3-1record and 3.51 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in seven starts.
Karns will look to return to his winning ways when he gets the ball later tonight in Game 3 of the series against Baltimore. Karns had three starts against the O’s last year, going 0-1 with a 3.24 ERA in 16.2 innings. Seattle is 4-0 in Karns’ last four road starts.
Second baseman Robinson Cano will try to lend Karns support from the plate. Cano has hit well at Camden Yards throughout his career. He has lifetime slashes of.362/.413/.576 with 15 home runs in Baltimore.
Betting on the Baltimore Orioles (24-14)
Fresh off a morale-boosting performance in a 9-2 win over the Twins on May 11, Tyler Wilson now eye another win when he gets the ball later tonight. Wilson is 2-1 with a 2.93 ERA in four starts this year.
Wilson had an easy time getting past Minnesota’s underwhelming lineup, as he yielded just two earned runs on six hits. Wilson, however, recorded 17 fly balls, which do not look good heading into tonight’s ball game. For one, Seattle is among the best home-run hitting teams in the majors this far this season.
Speaking of home runs, the Orioles lead the American League in that department with 55 to date. They’re also eighth in the league with 162 RBIs as of this writing.
Manny Machado and Mark Trumbo pace the team with 11 homers apiece. Chis Davis, who has nine home runs this year, is 2-for-6 (.333) with a home run in limited at-bats in his career against Karns.
Baltimore is 6-3 in Wilson’s last nine starts dating back to 2015.
Writer’s Prediction
