Betting on the Seton Hall Pirates (odds)
Record: 21-10 Overall/11-8 Conference
The Pirates head to the NCAA Tournament coming off a 62-62 loss to the UConn Huskies in the Big East Tournament but don’t let that setback diminish your outlook on Seton Hall. Despite that loss, the Pirates have some momentum going into the first round, as they are 6-1 straight up in their last seven games. That includes a win over the Creighton Bluejays, who made it to the Big East Tournament finals, on the road back on Mar. 5. Jared Rhoden and Kadary Richmond have done a fantastic job of helping keep the Pirates’ heads above water with Bryce Aiken out with a concussion. Aiken is unlikely to play any game this season, but Seton Hall has adjusted well in playing solid basketball without him. The Pirates also ride on their defense that ranks 26th in adjusted defensive efficiency and 17th nationally in effective field goal percentage defense.
The Under is 15-3 in Seton Hall’s last 18 games following a defeat.
Betting on the TCU Horned Frogs (odds)
Record: 20-12 Overall/8-10 Conference
The Horned Frogs are going dancing for the first time this millennium. The last time TCU played in an NCAA Tournament game was way back in 1998. However, the Horned Frogs’ recent form isn’t encouraging, as they have lost three of their past four games, twice against the Kansas Jayhawks. Then again, the Horned Frogs are not facing a powerhouse in the first round. If the Horned Frogs are to get out of that round, they will need their rebounding to click. They are not an efficient scoring team but are 24th in the nation with 38.7 rebounds per game and fourth in offensive rebound rate (36.2%). 6-1 guard Mike Miles is leading the Horned Frogs with 15.0 points per game. Despite their shortcomings, the Horned Frogs gained an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament thanks in large part to wins against the LSU Tigers, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and even Kansas. The tough competition in the Big 12 has sharpened these Horned Frogs.
TCU is 7-2-1 against the spread in its last 10 games after a loss.
Writer’s Prediction
