Betting on the Tennessee Titans (-10.5)
Regular Season Record: 11-5
The Titans wallopped the Miami Dolphins in Week 16, as Tennessee scored a 34-3 home win over Tua Tagovailoa and company. Ryan Tannehill passed for 120 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions on 13/18 completions while running back D’Onta Foreman rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries. Foreman is no Derrick Henry, but he’s been providing decent performances out of the backfield for the Titans, who are still third in the NFL with 142.5 rushing yards per game. With Foreman’s emergence, Tannehill can worry less about the lack of support on the ground. In their 22-13 upset home loss to Houston in Week 11, the Titans saw Tannehill pass for 323 yards and a touchdown with four interceptions on 35/52 completions, while Adrian Peterson led the team with just 40 rushing yards on nine carries.
The Titans are 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 games after producing over 150 rushing yards in their previous outing.
Betting on the Houston Texans (+10.5)
Regular Season Record: 4-12
The Texans lost to the San Francisco 49ers on the road, 23-7, in Week 17, thus failing to win three games in a row. Prior to that meeting in Santa Clara, the Texans defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road in Week 15 (30-16) and the Los Angeles Chargers at home in Week 16 (41-29). This time, the Texans are looking to score another upset win at the expense of the Titans. When they defeated Tennessee on the road, the Texans leaned on the legs of Tyrod Taylor, who rushed for two touchdowns, and on their defense that, as mentioned, picked off Tannehill four times. Instead of Taylor, the Texans will have Davis Mills under center in Week 18, and the rookie seems to be getting better and better of late. He has thrown for six touchdowns against two interceptions in his last four appearances.
The Texans are 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 home games versus a team with a winning road record.
Writer’s Prediction
The Titans win, 27-10.
