Betting on the UConn Huskies (odds)

Record: 9-5 Overall / 6-5 Conference

UConn has finally snapped out of their slump and scored an 80-72 win over the Xavier Musketeers last Saturday. RJ Cole came off the bench and fired 35 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field, while Tyrese Martin pumped out 15 points for the Huskies, who also held Xavier to only 40.3 percent from the field. The Huskies operate with a stingy defense that is the best in the Big East. For one, the Huskies are allowing just 65.9 points per game in conference play with Big East teams shooting just 42.8 percent from the floor against UConn. The Huskies are still awaiting word on the availability of scoring machine James Bouknight, who has missed several games due to an injury but appears to be close to getting back to action. Bouknight has averaged 20.3 points in the six games he’s played so far this season.

UConn is 5-1 against the spread in its last six road games.

Betting on the Villanova Wildcats (odds)

Record: 13-3 Overall / 8-2 Conference

For the second time in four games, Villanova got handed an upset loss, this time by the Creighton Bluejays on the road last Saturday, 86-70. It was a surprising result, not only because the Wildcats entered the game ranked higher, but also because Villanova got beat by that many points. The Wildcats were the 2-point favorites in that game. Villanova shot only 37.5 percent from the field against Creighton after recording a 63.0 field goal percentage in the win over the Marquette Golden Eagles on Feb. 10 at home. Nevertheless, Villanova still owns one of the most potent offenses in the nation. The Wildcats are averaging 78.6 points per game and 1.169 points per possession — 13th overall.  KenPom has Villanova’s offense ranked first in adjusted efficiency with 118.4 points per 100 possessions.

The over is 4-1 in Villanova’s last five home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Villanova wins, 75-67.
