Betting on the Maryland Terrapins (24-6, 14-3 Big Ten)

Maryland returned to winning ways Thursday with a resounding 81-55 victory over Illinois at Xfinity Center.  It was a huge bounce-back win for the Terrapins, who suffered a gut-wrenching 83-79 defeat to Purdue in their previous game. With the victory, the Terps improved their overall record this season to 24-6.

Starring for Maryland in this home finale was Jake Layman. He scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed seven boards in this Senior Night clash. Layman has been in excellent form of late, shooting an incredible 76.0 percent from the field while averaging 16.3 points over his last three games. Melo Trimble also stepped up big time for the Terps in this contest, scoring 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. It’s a remarkable turnaround for Trimble who shot just 23.4 percent and committed 19 turnovers in his previous four outings.

The Terps will look to end their regular season on a high when they lock horns with the Indiana Hoosiers tonight. For Maryland to accomplish that feat, it needs to continue its excellent play on the offensive end. The Terps have shot 51.7 percent from the field while averaging 82.0 points over their last three games.

The Terps are 4-4-2 ATS in their last 10 road games.

Betting on the Indiana Hoosiers (24-6, 12-5 Big Ten)

Maryland vs Indiana Basketball Predictions – March 2016

The Indiana Hoosiers stretched their unbeaten run to four games with a thrilling 81-78 win over the No. 16 Iowa Hawkeyes on Tuesday. Four starters scored in double-figures for the Hoosiers who have now won five of their last six outings.

Key to their success this season has been their phenomenal offense. Indiana is 11th in the nation in scoring, averaging a whopping 82.8 points per game this campaign. That’s quite a feat for the Hoosiers who played the entire league schedule without second-leading scorer James Blackmon Jr. (knee injury). That offensive brilliance was in full display Tuesday against the Hawkeyes where they shot an incredible 50.8 percent from the field.

Indiana will look to sustain the momentum of that huge win when they square off with Maryland tonight. For the Hoosiers to record the victory, they will need to get another solid performance from Yogi Ferrell. He had 20 points, three rebounds and five assists in the win against Iowa. Ferrell has been superb for the Hoosiers this season, leading the team not only in scoring (17.1 PPG), but also in assists (5.5 APG) and steals (1.2 SPG) as well.

Ferrell will fancy his chances of extending that excellent form against the Terps as he has fared extremely well against them of late. He averaged 21.7 points in last season’s series against Maryland. He will look to bury a Maryland side that has lost 19 straight on the road to ranked teams. Ferrell will have his work cut out for him, however, against a Maryland defense that’s allowing just 65.2 points per game this season, 34th in the entire nation. That won’t faze the Hoosiers, though, who are still unbeaten at home this season.

Indiana is 6-4 ATS in its last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Indiana (-5.5) edges past Maryland, 65-59.
