Betting on the Detroit Red Wings (17-18-5)
The Red Wings’ season currently has that smell of a burning tire. It’s been that bad for the storied franchise, which has lost nine of its last 13 games, including Saturday’s mess of a 6-3 loss in San Jose. The road trip continues for the Red Wings later tonight in Windy City, where they are just 2-8 in their last 10 trips there.
Detroit’s power play units carry most of the weight that pulls the Red Wings down, as the team is converting just 11.2 percent of their opportunities on the man advantage. But up against Chicago’s faulty penalty killing unit, who knows what the Red Wings could bring to the table? The Blackhawks are just 28th in the NHL in stopping power plays scores.
One bright spot for the Red Wings is Anthony Mantha, who has gone off lately, tallying five goals and two assists in his last five games.
The over is 6-3-1 in Detroit’s last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Chicago Blackhawks (26-12-5)
Chicago is in Michael Jordan mode again, as the Blackhawks ripped three-straight wins to keep in step with Minnesota in the Central Division.
The Blackhawks last saw action on Sunday, giving Nashville a 5-2 walloping in United Center. The Blackhawks are 3-0 in their last three at home and will look to extend that to four against a struggling Detroit squad.
Chicago’s offense is humming right now, scoring 11 goals in the last three games and it could continue finding the back of the net against Detroit’s defense that ranks just 25th in the league.
The third period of this game is going to be worth watching with Chicago being sixth in the league in third-period scoring (42 goals) and Detroit allowing the sixth most third-period goals (43) thus far on the season. That’s something to keep in mind for those looking to do live betting in this game.
Patrick Kane is always a threat on offense but Chicago could also turn to Ryan Hartman’s hot stick. Hartman is coming off a three-goal game—his first career hat trick—in the win over the Preds . Kane is having another great season again with 44 points (12 goals, 32 assists) to date.
Writer’s Prediction
