Betting on the Clemson Tigers (16-15 Overall / 9-11 Conference)
Clemson is headed to the second round of the ACC Tournament. That’s after the Tigers edged the Miami Hurricanes on Wednesday, 69-64. The Tigers were limping to the conference tourney and were looking like prime for an early exit as they lost their last two assignments of the regular season to the Virginia Tech Hokies and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The win over the Canes did not just extend the life of Clemson in the tournament, but it also gave the Tigers’ confidence a shot in the arm, which they definitely need heading into the matchup against Florida State — a team they have already defeated before. Clemson took down the Seminoles on Feb, 29, 70-69, at home. Clemson forced the Noles to commit plenty of turnovers (16) and scored extra points off of those, to somehow mitigate the impact of the the Tigers’ poor 6-of-20 shooting from deep. Clemson finished the regular season allowing just 64.1 points per game and holding opponents to just 41.2 percent shooting from the field.
The Tigers are 6-4 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 games.
Betting on the Florida State Seminoles (26-5 Overall / 16-4 Conference)
The ‘Noles sure are wishing a replay of their recent meeting with the Clemson Tigers, against whom they lost on the road late last month, 70-69. Save for that loss, the Seminoles have gone into cruise control over their past several weeks. They have won six of their past seven games, a stretch that includes their 82-67 home win over the Louisville Cardinals on Feb. 24. In their most recent outing, the Seminoles crushed the Boston College Eagles, 80-62, in Tallahassee. Florida State feeds off a balanced offense that features six players averaging at least 6.0 points per contest. The best scorer is Devin Vassell, who is putting up 12.7 points per game, though, it can be anybody on the team leading them on offense during any given game. Florida State’s size also adds to the intimidation factor of the team. The Seminoles are 10th in the nation in blocks per game (5.2) and block percentage (9.5%).
The Seminoles are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games.
Writer’s Prediction
Florida State wins, 73-65.
