Regular Season Record: 5-8
The Niners didn’t help their fading playoff chances with a 23-15 home loss to the Washington Football Team in Week 14. Nick Mullens played poorly, as he went 25 of 45 for 260 yards for a touchdown and an interception while also getting sent to the ground four times for a loss of 24 yards. It’s sometimes tricky to predict whether Mullens will be good, great, or horrendous, but there should be some optimism for him heading into a matchup against Dallas’ Swiss cheese defense. The Cowboys are last in the league with 30.8 points allowed per game. Their third-down defense is pathetic, with opponents converting 50.0 percent of their third-down tries. Despite a banged-up roster, San Francisco should be able to shine on offense in Week 15 opposite that bad Dallas stop unit.
The under is 3-1 in the last four games of the Niners, who are averaging 23.1 points per contest.
Betting on the Dallas Cowboys (+3)
Regular Season Record: 4-9
The Cowboys gave their own playoff chances a shot in the arm with a 30-7 road win over the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday. Andy Dalton relished the chance to play in his old stomping grounds, as he passed for 185 yards and two touchdowns and without an interception on 16-of-23 completions. Dalton has passed for at least two touchdowns in three of his last four starts. He had three touchdowns against an interception in a 31-28 road win over the Minnesota Vikings back in Week 11. Although their defense has been maligned endlessly this season, the Cowboys showed signs of life on that side of the ball in Week 14. Granted that it was against a going-nowhere Cincinnati team, limiting the Bengals to just seven points and forcing three turnovers should give Dallas’ defense a nice momentum heading into an assignment against a lackluster San Francisco attack.
The over is 7-3 in the last 10 home games of the Cowboys, who are averaging 22.9 points per contest.
Writer’s Prediction
The 49ers win, 26-24.
