Betting on the Xavier Musketeers (ODDS)
Record: 20-7 Overall/12-4 Conference
The Musketeers aren’t just one of the best teams in the Big East Conference, but they’re also among the elites in the nation. Ranked 16th on the AP Poll, Xavier will look to stay above .500 in road games when it pays the Pirates a visit this Friday. The last time they played in enemy territory, the Musketeers lost to the Marquette Golden Eagles on Feb. 15, 69-68. In fact, Xavier is 0-3 straight-up in its last three road games. But before anyone feels discouraged about the prospects of the Musketeers winning versus the Pirates, do note that Xavier defeated Seton Hall at home last December, 73-70. The Musketeers’ offense is danger to anyone, as it is top 15 nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency and top 10 in effective field goal percentage.
Xavier, which faces Villanova at home Tuesday, is 4-0 against the spread in its last four road games versus Seton Hall dating back to 2018.
Betting on the Seton Hall Pirates (ODDS)
Record: 16-12 Overall/9-8 Conference
The Pirates are coming off a 64-55 road loss to the UConn Huskies, so a return home is good timing for Seton Hall. On the season, Seton Hall is 10-4 straight up in home games. In their last home game, they blasted the Georgetown Hoyas in a 76-68 win on Feb. 14, as expected because Patrick Ewing’s team is among the worst Power Five teams in the nation. Defense is a major weapon for Seton Hall this season and the Pirates plan to use that to stun Xavier this time around. The Pirates are 36th nationally with just 64.7 points allowed per game and 28th with a defensive eFG% of 46.6%. Although they lost to Xavier last December, the Pirates held the Musketeers to only 44.8 FG% and forced them to commit 14 turnovers.
The Over is 2-0 in Seton Hall’s last two games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
Xavier wins, 75-72.
