Betting on the Arizona Cardinals (-3)
Once again, the offense didn’t click for the Arizona Cardinals. They fell to 1-3 on the season, good for third in the NFC West, after racking up just 13 points in an eventual loss to the Rams yesterday. And what’s worse, the Cards also lost Carson Palmer, who was forced to exit the game with a potential concussion during the final period.
Despite this, there were at least a few things that Arizona can smile about. One of which was the fact that both Michael Floyd and John Brown finally made their presence felt this season. Floyd scored the team’s lone TD versus Los Angeles, while Brown led all receivers with 10 catches for 144 yards. Those two could be in for another productive outing versus the struggling 49ers this coming Thursday night.
The Cards, though, are likely going to focus on their rushing game in this matchup. San Francisco, as of this moment, ranks at the bottom of the league in defending against the run (140.5 YPG). Hence, it’s safe to expect a very big night from David Johnson. He leads Arizona with 217 yards on 47 carries and three touchdowns this season.
Arizona is 7-3 SU and 6-4 ATS in its last 10 road games.
Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (+3)
A return to Levi’s Stadium and an early two-touchdown lead was not enough to stop the bleeding for the San Francisco 49ers, who received their third-straight loss last night against a visiting and depleted Cowboys squad, 24-17.
QB Blaine Gabbert was on-point in the beginning, guiding San Francisco to an early 14-0 advantage. But he struggled to lead the offense after that, and finished the game with 196 passing yards, one touchdown and a costly interception in the fourth quarter.
Gabbert and company, however, suffered an even bigger loss with the injury of their star inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman in the second half. He was carted off and was immediately deemed unable to return. His status for next week or possibly the entire season is up in the air right now.
Speaking of next week, the Niners will be playing host to the Cardinals this time around. Both clubs are coming off consecutive losses and have been held below 20 points in the previous two weeks. The team which relocates its offensive rhythm first will probably win here. But right now, the Cards obviously have the upper hand since they do boast a deeper and more talented roster.
Still, the Niners have a fighting chance to steal this game. Other than having the crowd on their side, they do have a strong running game (114.0 YPG) that’s headlined by Carlos Hyde. The third-year back has found the end zone four times this season and has accumulated 225 yards rushing, 11th-most among all running backs in the league today.
San Francisco is 5-5 SU and 6-4 ATS in its last 10 home games.
