Betting on the Baylor Bears (-1.5)

Record: 24-5 Overall/12-4 Conference

Baylor scored another win last Saturday, as the Bears defeated the Kansas Jayhawks at home in Waco to the tune of a commanding 80-70 score. Baylor managed to win that game despite shooting just 3/14 from deep and turning the ball over eight times to just four by Kansas. The success is mainly because of Baylor’s frenetic defense that limited Kansas to only 24/70 shooting from the field. The Jayhawks’ top two gunners in Ochai Agbaji and Christian Braun scored 44 points together but combined for a salty 14/35 shooting from the field. That’s the same type of tight defense Baylor used to throttle Texas in an 80-63 home win back in January. The Longhorns shot only 32.8 percent from the field in that game, while Bears center Flo Thamba recorded four of Baylor’s seven blocks.

Baylor, which is allowing just 63.3 points per game this season, has seen the total hit the Under in three of its last four games overall.

Betting on the Texas Longhorns (+1.5)

Record: 21-8 Overall/10-6 Conference

Texas is gaining momentum again. After losing to the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Feb. 19 at home, the Longhorns rebounded nicely with consecutive wins over the TCU Horned Frogs (75-66) at home and against the West Virginia Mountaineers in Morgantown (82-81). Timmy Allen exploded for 26 points to go with 10 rebounds in 36 minutes in the win against West Virginia, while Marcus Carr provided 15 points. Those two were silent in the first meeting with Texas, combining for only 16 points on 6/14 shooting, so the Longhorns are hoping that Allen and Carr will carry the form they’ve had in the Mountaineers game into this rematch against Baylor. But it’s really Texas’ defense that will most influence the fate of the Longhorns, who are fourth in the nation with just 58.8 points allowed per contest.

The Over is 7-3 in Texas’ last 10 games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

Baylor wins, 67-64.
