Best NHL Free Agent Goalies

1. Ryan Miller

Miller is no longer a top-tier level netminder but for the right value, he’s going to be quite a catch for teams looking for help between the pipes next season. Miller’s three-year contract worth $18 million with the Vancouver Canucks is set to expire on July 1 and at 36-years-old and with a quick decline possibly in the near future for him, it’s unlikely Miller will net more than a two-year contract. Nevertheless, there should be a market for a goalie with career numbers of 358-262-73, 2.61 GAA, and .914 SV%. Miller went 18-29-6 with a 2.80 GAA and .914 SV% last season.

Ideal landing spot: Philadelphia, Edmonton

2. Brian Elliott

Elliott is bound to look for another employer else after disappointing the Calgary Flames last season. Elliott finished the regular season with a 26-18-0 record to go with a .2.55 GAA and a 910 SV%. It was far from the numbers he usually put up in the five seasons he spent wearing St. Louis Blues threads but perhaps a fresh environment could jumpstart his career. Elliott’s expiring contract brings a relatively affordable $2.5 million, which shouldn’t be far from what the worth of his next deal. Per puckplusplus.com, Elliott is worth around $ 3.6 in cap hit.

Ideal landing spot: Philadelphia, Winnipeg

3. Jonathan Bernier

Bernier is about to taste the life of being an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career after spending his first nine seasons in the NHL with three different clubs. Bernier hasn’t reached the potential many expected of him during his younger years. He’s still just 28, turning 29 on August, but he appears to have exhausted those hopes of him ever becoming a start. That said, he could be a dependable backup piece for any team intent on fortifying their goalie depth chart.

Ideal landing spot: Colorado
