Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (4-3)

Moneyline: +141

For the third time in the young season, the Dodgers put up double-digit runs in a game, as they raced to a 10-6 win over the Colorado Rockies Sunday. They punished the defense by going 15-for-40 on the plate and having six different guys score a run. Corey Seager and team newbie Logan Forsythe combined for five hits, four runs, three RBIs, and a pair of walks.

It was a timely performance, as Kenta Maeda (1-1, 6.30 ERA) had a tough day. Though he struck out five, he gave up four earned runs on five hits and one walk.

Attempting to do better is Alex Woods, who is currently in place for the injured Rich Hill (finger). The lefty threw for two innings (one walk and one strikeout) while in relief duty last April 5th against the San Diego Padres.

Counting their meeting at the NLCS, the Dodgers went 5-8 in facing the Cubs last season. They only had 74 hits in 400 total at-bats (.185 BA) in those 13 games, with Seager being the only Dodger to hit decently – 13-for-47 (.276 BA).

The Dodgers are 3-9 in Woods’s 12 starts on the road.

Betting on the Chicago Cubs (4-2)

Moneyline: -156

After six straight road games, the defending champs are finally returning to Wrigley Field to raise their banners. It’s a good time to head back home, treat the home crowd, and further ignite their recent good roll on offense.

The Cubs have scored 18 runs in their last two games, both of which are comfortable wins. They collectively batted for .350 in that stretch, highlighted by Kris Bryant hitting in six of his 10 at-bats and recording two runs and three RBIs.

The pitching was also solid. In Sunday’s 7-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, Jake Arrietta was in action for seven innings and only allowed three earned runs on three hits and two walks, while also retiring 10 batters.

Following him will be Jon Lester (0-0, 1.80 ERA), who will be making his second appearance this season. The 11th-year veteran last started in April 2nd during the season-opener, where he struck out seven guys and only garnered one earned run on seven hits and two walks after five innings.

Lester could be looking to continue his wrath on the Dodgers. He was 1-0 with a 0.60 ERA in two starts against them in 2016, and that win was one of his only two complete games that year.

The team’s current core of batters are collectively 11-for-40 (.275 BA) against the Dodgers’ Woods, with the duo of Bryant and Anthony Rizzo having a combined four hits in 16 at-bats, which includes one homer, three RBIs, and two doubles.

The Cubs have won 13 straight games at home with Lester as the starter.

Writer’s Prediction

The Cubs (-156) win, 8-2.
