Betting on the Los Angeles Rams (8-0)
How stout can the Rams’ defensive line get? Apparently, the answer is stouter than your best projection of it prior to the season. Already boasting a front seven that features the likes of Ndamukong Suh, Aaron Donald, and Corey Littleton, the Rams decided to make their defense even more diabolical by trading for defensive end Dante Fowler from the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Rams will have the perfect opponent to test their new and improved defense this weekend against the high-octane New Orleans attack. The Rams are coming off a 29-27 win at home against Green Bay in which they limited Aaron Rodgers below 290 passing yards while also allowing just a passing touchdown to the lethal quarterback. The Rams are holding opponents down to just 19.4 points. The thing with the Rams is that they’re just as good – if not better – on offense. The Rams have top three averages of 33.0 points and 442.6 total yards per game. They could also be getting Cooper Kupp this weekend after the talented wide receiver missed the last two weeks with a knee injury.
The Rams are 9-1 SU and 6-4 ATS in their last 10 road games.
Betting on the New Orleans Saints (6-1)
The Saints extended their win streak to six games last weekend by taking down the Minnesota Vikings on the road, 30-20. That the Saints beat the Washington Redskins, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Vikings – all legitimate Super Bowl contenders – in succession speak volumes about how strong New Orleans. The Saints’ offense is doing a magnificent job of compensating for the shortcomings of its counterpart on the other end of the field. With Drew Brees orchestrating their attack, the Saints have become the second-highest scoring team in the league with 33.4 points per game. So far this season, Brees has 1,990 passing yards and 14 touchdowns with only one interception. He passed for only 120 yards in Week 8, but that’s because the Saints decided to run the ball more, with Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara rushing 26 times for 108 yards. The Saints, however, showed it can get the job done on defense when they forced two game-changing turnovers against the Vikings.
The over is 3-1 in the Saints’ last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction
New Orleans wins, 28-27.
