The good times stopped rolling for the Dolphins, who suffered a 20-13 loss on the road at the hands of the Denver Broncos last Sunday. With that loss, Miami failed to extend its five-game unbeaten streak, though getting back in the win column can’t get any easier for the Dolphins with the winless Jets up next on their schedule. Rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was benched in the second half of the Denver game, but he’s still expected to start, and he can pick up the pieces by slicing through New York’s defense that’s second-worst in the league with 30.2 points allowed per game. Miami’s defense can have a field day as well, as the Jets don’t help themselves with an average of 14.9 points per game. On the flip side, the Dolphins are fourth in the league in scoring defense (20.2) and third in takeaways per game (1.7).
The Dolphins are 3-1 against the spread in their last four road games.
Betting on the New York Jets (+6.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-10
There’s nothing new from the Jets front, as they lost once again in Week 11, with the LA Chargers taking them down in Inglewood, 34-28. Against the Chargers, Joe Flacco passed for 205 yards and two touchdowns with an interception on 15-of-30 completions, while Frank Gore rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. With how bad things are going for the Jets, the fact that their scoring is having an uptick of late might be getting overlooked by many. Since Flacco took over the duties under center, the Jets have scored at least 30 points in two games. Flacco will get the start again this week, with Sam Darnold not expected to play against Miami due to a shoulder issue. Flacco had 186 yards with no touchdowns and an interception on 21-of-44 completions in the Jets’ 24-0 road loss to the Dolphins earlier this season.
The Jets are 2-0 against the spread in their last two games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Dolphins win, 26-20.
