Betting on the Milwaukee Brewers (30-34)
Following last night’s loss in the opener, the Milwaukee Brewers hope to quickly get their revenge on the San Francisco Giants this evening by sending Matt Garza on the mound.Garza has been sidelined for the past two months due to a serious shoulder injury that he suffered during his final Spring Training start. The veteran right-hander has made three rehab starts prior to tonight’s game. He also carried a 5.63 ERA last season.
It’s fair to say that Garza could end up pretty rusty against the Giants later. And if that’s indeed the case, the pressure is on the Brewers’ offense, which is racking up 4.11 runs per game this season, to deliver the goods at the plate.
Expect Ryan Braun and Jonathan Villar to lead the charge in doing so. Both are arguably the team’s most reliable batters, and are hitting .313 and .296 this year.
Braun, in particular, should be in for a better outing. He boasts a career triple-slash line of .300/.364/.582 against San Francisco. The 32-year-old left fielder is also 8-of-26 lifetime with three doubles, two homers and four RBIs versus Giants ace Madison Bumgarner.
Milwaukee is 5-5 SU in its last 10 road games.
Betting on the San Francisco Giants (39-26)
Over on the San Francisco Giants’ side, things should continue to go their way especially with Madison Bumgarner (7-2, 1.88 ERA) toeing the rubber tonight for the second meeting of this three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Dominant would be the best word to describe Bumgarner’s year thus far. A proof of this is the fact that the 26-year-old southpaw has only yielded two runs or fewer in his previous 10 starts. That stretch also includes three shutout performances against the Mets, Cubs and Braves.
Another brilliant performance should be in the making later versus the Brewers—a team that Bumgarner usually fares well against. He owns a 6-2 win-loss record with a quality 2.25 ERA and 1.12 WHIP across nine career starts in that particular matchup.
On offense, meanwhile, the Giants, who are priced at +650 to win the World Series this year, can rely on either Brandon Belt or Buster Posey to make some noise at the plate.
Belt currently leads the team in batting (.300), homers (eight), OBP (.411) and hits (64). He also marches into this game riding on a seven-game hitting streak. Posey, on the other hand, went 2-of-3 with a double and one RBI in the opener.
San Francisco is 6-4 in its previous 10 games with Bumgarner starting.
