Betting on the New Orleans Saints (1-0)

It’s not only Tom Brady who’s defying Father Time under center this season. There’s also New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, who put up a solid effort in the Saints’ first game of the season. Brees passed for 370 yards and two touchdowns against an interception and had ample help coming from running back Alvin Kamara and wide receiver Michael Thomas, who had 97 rushing yards and 123 receiving yards, respectively, in the Saints’ 30-28 overtime win over the Houston Texans last Monday. In addition to his rushing numbers, Kamara also had 72 receiving yards on seven catches and seven targets. Although Mark Ingram is gone, Latavius Murray showed he’s a capable replacement, as he had 43 rushing yards and a TD on six rushes. Perhaps what’s more impressive was the Saints’ defensive line, which was responsible for the six times Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson went down. Containing Goff and forcing the Rams to become predictable on offense will be key for the Saints.

The Saints are 7-3 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 road games.

Betting on the Los Angeles Rams (1-0)

The Rams edged out the Carolina Panthers in a shootout down in Charlotte back in Week 1, taking home with them a 30-27 victory. Jared Goff fired a touchdown with an interception and concluded the day with 186 passing yards while completing 23 of 39 passes. Running back Todd Gurley didn’t look rusty despite not seeing any preseason action, as he paced the Rams with 97 rushing yards on 14 carries, while Malcolm Brown chipped in 53 rushing yards and came away with two rushing touchdowns on 11 rushes. The Rams generated a total of 166 rushing yards, and if they sustain that form on the ground, that could be trouble for the Saints’ defense that just allowed the pair of Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson combine for 140 of the Texans’ 180 rushing yards in Week 1. The Rams’ defense has a few new faces to introduce to Brees and the Saints’ attack. Former Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews had two solo tackles and a sack in his debut in Rams uniform, while Eric Weddle had six total tackles against the Texans before getting taken out of the game due to concussion. Rams head coach Sean McVay is reportedly confident that Weddle will suit up and play in Week 2.

The Rams are 2-0-1 ATS in their last three home games.

Writer’s Prediction

The Saints win, 28-27.
