Perhaps the most important thing to know about the Saints heading into Week 14 is the health status of Taysom Hill. The quarterback started is in danger of missing the game against the Jets in Week 15 because of a finger injury, though he is reportedly looking to play through it. Hill played poorly, passing-wise, in his first start of the season, tossing two touchdowns but getting picked four times while going just 19/41 completions for 264 passing yards in a 27-17 home loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day. However, he succeeded on the ground, rushing for 96 yards and a touchdown on four carries. There might also be a shot for running back Alvin Kamara to return to action after missing four games with a knee injury. For the Saints, it might not take everything out of them to beat a lowly Jets, so Hill or even Trevor Siemian could be enough of a starter for them in Week 14.
The Saints are 36-16 against the spread in their last 52 road games.
Betting on the New York Jets (+5.5)
Regular Season Record: 3-9
There’s nothing really new to report about the Jets, who lost — again — in Week 13 to Gardner Minshew and the Philadelphia Eagles at home, 33-18. New York’s defense got stunned by Minshew, while quarterback Zach Wilson had a so-so outing. The rookie went 23/38 for 226 passing yards and a couple of touchdowns with an interception. Perhaps the Jets will have more success defensively against the Saints, who have looked out of sorts in their passing attack, especially since Jameis Winston got sidelined. On the season, the Saints are last in the NFL in completion percentage and just 25th in passing yards per game.
The Jets, who are putting up 18.1 points so far this season, have covered the spread in five of their last seven games in the month of December.
Writer’s Prediction
The Saints win, 27-18.
