After an 8-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday, the Yankees are going on a three-series, nine-game road trip that begins with a matchup with Texas later tonight.

The Yankees are hoping that a change in scenery would bring life back to their offense. They were hushed by Rays starter Drew Smyly and Tampa’s bullpen that together allowed just one run on six hits. Despite that stinker of a performance at the plate, the Yankees’ hitters will come into tonight’s game feeling confident against a minor-league call up in the form of Cesar Ramos. Ramos, who has made 10 total major league career starts, is 0-0 with a 5.57 ERA in 19 appearances against the Yankees since 2011.

As for their pitching, the Yankees will have Nathan Eovaldi on the mound for Game 1 of this series. Eovaldi has yet to find his groove this season, as he is currently sporting a 0-2 record with a 6.11 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in three starts on the year.  Eovaldi has struck out at least seven batters in each of those starts and has walked just three batters, however. The Yankees are 8-2 in Eovaldi’s last 10 road starts dating back to last year.

In his most recent start, Eovaldi gave up three earned runs on eight hits in six innings of a 5-2 home loss to Oakland on April 20.

Betting on the Texas Rangers (10-9)

Adrian Beltre and teammates celebrating

Cole Hamels won’t be on the mound later tonight, when Texas tries to snap a three-game skid. Hamels has been ruled out of his scheduled start due to a groin injury. In Hamels’ lieu, the Rangers will give the ball to Cesar Ramos, who’ll make his season debut in the majors against the Yankees. Ramos had a 0-1 record and 3.18 ERA in three starts in Triple-A this year.

Ramos sure would appreciate it if his teammates would provide some run support after not making a major league start in almost two years. His last start came in May 17, 2014, when he was still wearing a Tampa Bay uniform.

Texas, which is fresh off a three-game sweep at the hands of the White Sox, is counting on the bats of Ian Desmond and Adrian Beltre to produce at the plate. Desmond is 8-for-19 with two homers and five RBIs in his last six games. Furthermore, Desmond is 5-for-21 (.238) with a homer and three RBIs in his career versus Eovaldi. Beltre, on the other hand, is 9-for-24 in his past six games.

Texas is 3-0 in its last three home games.
