Betting on the Seton Hall Pirates (21-7 Overall / 13-3 Conference)
The Pirates took a stumble Wednesday night, as they lost to the Villanova Wildcats at home, 79-77. The Pirates also lost against the spread, as they entered that game as favorites by 3.5 points. It was the second Seton Hall game in a row in which the total hit the over. Junior forward Sandro Mamukelashvili led the charge for Seton Hall against the Wildcats, as he poured in 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while star guard Myles Powell had 14 points, eight assists, and four rebounds. The game basically came down to who had the most 3-pointers. The Wildcats had 13 while Seton knocked down 12 treys. The Pirates hope that they find their rhythm again from deep when they meet the Bluejays this coming Saturday. Seton Hall lost to the Bluejays at home back in February, 87-82, in a game where the Pirates went just 7 of 31 from behind the arc. Quincy McKnight spearheaded Seton Hall in that game with 20 points, while Mamukelashvili and Powell combined for 25 points.
The Pirates are 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last four road games.
Betting on the Creighton Bluejays (22-7 Overall / 11-5 Conference)
Unlike Seton Hall, the Bluejays took care of business Wednesday night, downing the Georgetown Hoyas at home, 91-76, while also doing just enough to cover the spread as 13-point favorites. It was a nice recovery win for Creighton, who got upset by the St. John’s Red Storm in a 91-71 road loss last Sunday. Creighton, the alma mater of Kyle Korver, made it rain from the 3-point area in the Hoyas game. The Bluejays sank 17 triples on 36 attempts for a ridiculous 47.2 percent shooting from deep. It’s not every game that Creighton will knock down that many shots from long range, but the Bluejays are a team that can beat anyone with their outside shooting. In fact, they are 19th in the nation with 9.4 3-pointers per game and 18th with a 37.7 percent shooting from behind the arc. Creighton leading scorer Ty-Shon Alexander is averaging 16.9 points per game and is one of three Bluejays with at least 70 3-pointers made so far this season.
The Bluejays are 5-0 ATS in their last five games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
Creighton wins, 76-75.
